Both soy and whey protein offer benefits to athletes and health minded individuals. Most Americans do not get enough protein in their diet but nutritional supplements offer a quick and easy way to add protein.

Protein is used by the muscles as an energy source.  Think of it like a building block for your body.  The more muscles you want, the more protein you will need available.  You will also need a supply just to maintain the amount of muscle mass you desire.

There are many sources of protein, meat, milk, nuts, beans, eggs, cheese, soy, brown rice, etc.  So the question is, what type of protein is right for you?

Whey Protein:

Whey protein has been the standard for protein shakes and nutritional supplements for years.  It works well, tastes great and provides many nutrients that a healthy body desires.

Whey protein comes from animals.  Most of the time it is from cow milk.  Because of this, the quality of the protein is subject to the conditions of the animal that it comes from.  Healthy cows make healthy protein, but not all cows are raised in a healthy and all-natural way.

Soy Protein:

Soy protein comes from the soy plant.  It is very similar in nature to other proteins but it is completely plant based.  One reason that soy protein is so popular is that people who are vegetarians or vegans can not consume whey protein which comes from an animal.  Soy allows these people to maintain protein levels in their diets quickly an easily.
