There is a good chance you have received mixed suggestions from your peers on a proper post-workout intake. Let’s simplify so that you can focus more on your next work out.

Plant Proteins: Hemp

Part 2 of 3

Hemp protein is gaining popularity to due its highly nutritious attributes. Hemp contains highly digestible globular proteins, albumin and edestin. The “globular structure” makes hemp protein quite soluble in water. Hemp protein is a “near complete” protein and is rich in forms of Omega 3 and Omega 6 Fatty acids.

Soy is an exception however, due to food allergies, some cannot use this form of protein. This poses a dilemma for vegans and vegetarians seeking to achieve adequate, vegetable-derived protein intake. For this reason we use Hemp, Pea, Brown Rice, and Flaxseed proteins.

HALLOWEEN’S OVER, BUT DON’T GROW UP JUST YET!

Jumping Rope

Don't let those school kids show you up!

When Halloween passes by you can’t help but remember what it was like when you were a kid- cool costumes, haunted houses, and of course candy! Well we say take that childhood nostalgia and bring it into the gym this week with a little jump rope. That’s right, this old playground activity can actually be great complement to your workout. If you’re a little rusty start with the simple technique first. That’s standing in one place and skipping over the rope every time it makes a pass under your feet. Sounds easy enough, doesn’t it? Well try to say that after 30 seconds of continuous jumping- your heart will be pounding, you’ll be heaving like a racehorse and your shoulders will be on fire. That’s when you take a short break, and then do it again. Go ahead grown-up, show those kids what you’ve got!

Mike Napoli, Mr. Clutch, Making a Case for World Series MVP?

After a Game 5 clutch double with bases loaded in the 8th inning in a 2-2 game, Mike Napoli has certainly made a case for himself as a World Series MVP candidate.  His .308 average with 9 RBIs, 2 HRs, 3BBs, clutch hitting, and not to mentioned his superb defensive play (threw Allen Craig out twice last night attempting to steal) has set him apart from the pack as one of the series heroes.

But the age old debate has been sparked, yet again, after LaRussa didn’t bring in a right-hander to face Napoli last night…should he have even been facing left-handed pitcher Rzepczynski? Napoli’s left/right splits this year weren’t all that wide, actually. But he did have a .619 slugging percentage and 1.049 OPS against left-handed pitchers this season — the fifth-best OPS against left-handers in the American League. So what Rzepczynski was doing in this game, trying to get him out in this spot, is a question that will hang over this entire series.

Nonetheless, Napoli came up big for the Rangers and brought his team within one game of a World Series title for the time in Rangers franchise history.

Game 6 tomorrow night in St. Louis at 8:05 pm EST.  Colby Lewis (0-0 1.35 ERA) vs. Jaime Garcia (0-0 0.00 ERA)

What’s New With APS Athlete Cheryl Fairweather?

Many people have been asking, what’s been going on with Cheryl Fairweather and what has she been up to lately? So, we asked her! Here’s what she had to say:

In the Duathlon world

Long Beach Tri Duathlon 1st place overall female

City Triathlon 4th place overall Female

ITU Worlds AG 8th place :( but top 10 in the world finish so that makes it slightly better!

What’s planned next..

Well, a lot of discussion went into what I should do and what I would like to do and the should do was more sound and gathered way more support for what needs to even take place as an athlete.

Had a long talk with my Duathlon coach and well..We are reeving up again Nov. 1 to make Team USA again for the 2012 season. I have an automatic bid into Nationals simply because I made the team this year. But, the goal is to not get 8th! pushing and training to make the podium in France as a Representative of the USA Team.

I’ll be heavily racing this upcoming season to accomplish 3 things…

1. Make the Duathlon USA team again and podium in 2012

2. Race under USA cycling in Road Criterion’s/Circuits

3. Qualify for the USA Track and Field Trials and go from there lol

Breakaway cycling is a great group here in PA that will be helping me utilize my gift as a sprinter and translate that into cycling. So, through some discussion, I took up the challenge :) . Starting 2012 I will be a licensed Cat 4 cyclist( upgrading from there)  with the USA. Which will benefit my racing as a duathlete. To qualify for 3 USA Nationals would be something this Multi-sports heart would be happy about! This was my 1st season as a competing Duathlete which many say I should be proud my accomplishments as a newbie..but I can’t help but hunger for more! So I’m totally looking forward to Season 2 and even a greater showing at Nationals and Worlds just based on the fact I’ll have more experience under my belt beyond just natural talents :)

As far as the LFL… I went to 2 great football rich colleges so the opportunity to play was a must do! And it was probably one of the funnest sports I ever played, but the risks of injury are so high and I can’t let this dream to make these teams that are so close and real pass me by :)

I’m fully dedicated to the Multi-sport world and I’m on the way to accomplish something great… I know it…just have to survive!!! lol

Mike Napoli Having a Career Season

The long-time Los Angeles Angel, first year Texas Ranger, Mike Napoli is having the season of his life.  After a slow start and an injury sidelining him for part of the season, Napoli has really come on as one of the elite hitters in the MLB today. Napoli ended the season hitting a career high .320 with 30 HRs and 74 RBIs and batted a ridiculous .429 during the month of September.  Over the years, he has been criticized for his lack of defensive skills, but the Texas Rangers have really benefited from his new defensive ability.  With a career low 3 errors in the field (when not serving as the Rangers DH), Napoli had an impressive .996 fielding percentage in 96 games!

Many people speculate that players sometimes need a “change in scenery” to really hit their stride in the majors, I guess being traded twice in four days really gave Napoli the motivation he needed to become one of the MLB’s elite players!

World Series Game 2

What a dramatic Game 2, great pitching and a clutch comeback by the Rangers.  The Cardinals were 3 outs away from going up 2-0 in the series and handed the ball to Mr. Automatic – Jason Motte.  Motte has been lights out the entire postseason and has one of the best beards in the game today. Motte allowed two uncharacteristic singles to open up the 9th inning and then Tony LaRussa made the move to the bullpen to bring in lefty Arthur Rhodes to face Josh Hamilton (lefty-lefty match up). Hamilton took the first pitch and hit a sacrifice to bring home Ian Kinsler and Elvis Andrus moved up to third. Lance Lynn relieved Rhodes, and Young hit a fly to center that scored Andrus with the go-ahead run.  Needless to say, the Rangers knocked out a 1-2-3- bottom of the 9th and finished off a great comeback.

This brings up the debate, is Tony LaRussa over-coaching? Should he have taken Motte out who can touch 100 MPH with a struggling and still injured Josh Hamilton coming up?  When LaRussa’s gambles pay off, he’s a genius, but now people question his tactics.

Take nothing away from the Texas Rangers, they fought back and kept fighting until the end.  Their victory may have just saved their World Series dreams, it dramatically changed the momentum of the series and going back to Texas for 3, the Cardinals really need a spark to get them going…rally squirrel?

Game 3 is Saturday night at 8:05 pm EST.
